Dates:

October 13th - camp out Primrose Campground, 16 miles north of Seward.
October 14th - Race Race Race, race start 7am

Prepare to paddle, trek, off-trail navigate in any and all weather conditions.  Paddling will be flat-water on a lake and trekking will take you through beautiful and exposed alpine terrain.

Preliminary planning has two courses.

The long course will see approximately 6-7 miles of paddle, 16 miles of trekking, and 16 miles of mountain biking.

The short course has around 5 miles of paddling, 9 miles of trekking and 9 miles of mountain biking.

These are estimates at this time.  I still need to evaluate some of the course options.

Check out the general club racing rules.

Race Update #2- September 26th 2007

I spent the past weekend scouting routes on the Kenai Peninsula for the October Club Race.   This race PROMISES to be adventurous as we finalize route details.  My goal is to still offer 2 courses.  A long course between 10-12 hours in duration (max max max) and a short course between 6-8 hours in duration (max max).  I am doing my best to create a challenging linear style AR course that will accommodate both experienced and newer racers.  Keep in mind that course start/transition areas may change due to weather and/or route conditions.  I am looking at the Cooper Landing Area, Seward region (most likely), and Skilac Lake as possibilities.  The finish WILL NOT share the same location as the race start, so we will have to do some shuttling of cars and gear to get people back to the finish.  I imagine worst case scenario is that the finish will be 12-15 (or 18) miles from the start.  Rest assured we will have a finish TA bin with dry clothes and hot drinks at the finish for you.  This is an awesome race for that support crew husband / wife / boyfriend / girlfriend / friend to join you on!

I am looking for volunteer help!  Let me know if you have any friends that might be interested.

There is some epic bushwacking that I am planning on sending both courses through.  It is short but thick.  I may provide UTM or Lat/Lon coordinates to the short course participants that will be quasi-mandatory to follow through the thick of the bushwack.  Trust me, following a GPS course through this terrain was still challenging last week!

Biking could be on some awesome singletrack with doubletrack road and stream crossings.  Lots of surprises are in store for you.  Like most good adventure races plan on some push-a-bike sections, especially if it rains a lot between now and then.

I am posting a suggested gear list below as well as a skills-set list that I am expecting every racing team to be able to competently perform.  This is a club race so I am expecting for teams to police themselves.  There will be no pre-race skills checks unless you ask for assistance.  The Kenai in October can be unforgiving and we will be traveling in remote places.  While you may only be 5 miles from a road you may as well be on the moon!  Cell phone will not work for a majority of this course.

Stay tuned for more information to come.
