UTM plotter for 1:25k and 1:63k USGS maps (will have loaners though you may have to wait) Mountain Bike ANSI Approved Helmet Bike Repair Kit (tube, patch kit, pump, multi-tool) Rear facing red flashing light Forward facing white light for biking (headlamp would suffice) Shell top Shell Bottom Gloves Hat Poly-pro top layer Poly-pro bottom layer |
Must Have Skills! Backcountry travel skills (map reading, staying warm/dry, emergency skills) UTM Coordinate Map plotting skills (will have a skills session prior to race and help will be available at the race meeting) GPS Navigation Skills: Short Course participants must have a GPS and know how to enter coordinates into the unit and utilize a ‘go-to’ feature for traveling from a current location to an entered coordinate.
Long Course participants will have their GPS units sealed with a card that lists important coordinates. Boating Skills. You must be comfortable boating flatwater in cold/windy/wet conditions. You will be able to stay close to shore for 90% of this route.
